At Hubbard, our technological expertise is focused on maximising genetic gain for the entire broiler industry and supporting market diversity. With over a century of proven success since 1921, our Research & Development and technical teams possess deep knowledge specialising in both conventional and differentiated broiler growth.

Each breed, whether in development or on the market, undergoes rigorous evaluation at every stage: from breeder to broiler and processing. They are also systematically compared to current global market offerings.

Genetic improvements in pure lines and final crosses are tested under various environmental conditions to ensure the competitiveness and robustness of our solutions, regardless of the circumstances.

R&D in Synergy with the various Markets

At Hubbard, all Research & Development efforts are closely aligned with the needs of the various markets, relying on the analysis of field data from our clients.

Our genetic selection is based on an extensive international network of breeder and broiler testing facilities across Europe, USA, Brazil, and Asia. This approach gives us detailed knowledge of the performance of our breeds in different environments, ensuring competitive and adapted solutions for all our customers.

Technological Expertise and Continuous Progress

Every chicken raised on our R&D farms is selected to express its best genetic potential based on multiple technical, economic, and welfare criteria, such as growth, feed efficiency, meat yields, liveability, reproduction, skeletal strength, and various traits related to welfare and quality.

To keep pace with market trends and to accelerate genetic progress, we have significantly increased the number of pure line chickens on our R&D farms and the criteria for which they are selected. Over the past decade, we have invested significantly in integrating advanced technologies that complement traditional breeding methods.

We use state-of-the-art selection tools:

  • CT Scan (Computed Tomography) to study the body and skeletal composition of the chickens. This helps us further improve meat yields and bone strength.
  • RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology and feeding stations to accurately measure the individual feed consumption and feeding behaviour of each chicken, thereby optimising the feed efficiency of our breeds.
  • Genomics. This advanced technology allows us to predict the genetic value of chickens with great accuracy. By analysing the DNA of each individual chicken, we significantly improve the accuracy of our evaluations, leading to a much faster and more efficient selection of the best chickens. This approach accelerates genetic progress for our entire breeding program.

These modern technologies allow us to increase the precision of current criteria and improve genetic progress in terms of yields, animal welfare and behaviour, feed efficiency, robustness, and liveability.

Our efforts also focus on traits related to reproduction, by allocating significant resources to the productivity of our breeds. For example, egg number, egg weight, eggshell quality, and reproductive behaviour are all measured and integrated into the selection process.

Innovation for Better Animal Welfare

We also attach great importance to animal welfare. Thanks to the integration of new technologies such as automated cameras, we can continuously evaluate the health and activity of the chickens, ensuring accurate monitoring that guarantees continuous improvement of their welfare.

Production & Hatchery

Hubbard’s global network represents our commitment to consistently delivering healthy, premium-quality breeding stock to our customers around the world.

With pedigree programs in the US and France, supported by our own Great Grandparent and Grandparent operations in Europe and North and South America, Hubbard’s production facilities are located close to key global markets. With the additional Grandparent distributors worldwide, customers can be assured they receive top-quality genetic stock from the most suitable supply location available.

Production Facilities

The Hubbard Great Grandparent and Grandparent production network includes both internal facilities and contract growers, all using the latest broiler breeder technologies. Significant investments in infrastructure designed to ensure the highest standards for biosecurity and animal welfare have been implemented over the years.

Health and Biosecurity

Our biosecurity programs are designed to prevent the introduction and spread of pathogens. We meet and/or exceed all official regulations for the trade of poultry breeding stock, minimizing disruptions to the supply of breeding stock to our customers. Along the use of heat-treated feed, strict biosecurity protocols are practiced at all our facilities including the movement of people, stock and equipment within the production locations.

From Egg to Chick

Hubbard’s Production team is committed to provide customers with healthy and sanitary chicks of the highest quality. Therefore, every step in the production chain from rearing to hatching, is closely monitored to guarantee the highest quality hatching eggs. At the end of the production chain, powered by regular investments in new technologies, and in compliance with strict sanitary rules, Hubbard’s hatcheries process these top quality hatching eggs into top-quality chicks.

Hubbard Logistics

Approximately 85% of our total production is exported. These deliveries are split equally between air and ground transport to over 100 countries in Europe, Africa, North and South America and Asia.

Hubbard’s Logistics Department strives to work on 3 main areas for continuous improvement of the delivery process:

  • Developing a special collaboration with our carriers,
  • Extending support and logistics advice to our customers,
  • Encouraging and improving chick quality upon arrival – our ultimate goal.
Road transport

Hubbard’s fleet uses high-performance specialist tools. Temperature, ventilation and humidity and even CO2 are controlled during transport by our highly trained and experienced drivers.

Air transport

Transporting chicks by plane is a very sensitive business. That’s why Hubbard developed its own patented containers. The pallets used have a central chimney and regularly used air ducts, ensuring optimal ventilation within the four compartments of the chick boxes.

Thanks to improved palletization at airports and the implementation of a specific loading standard for planes, the ventilation of our chicks throughout the entire air transport process is optimized. This method is now widely deployed by companies and many airports.

Measures for comprehensive air logistics chain management:
  • Use of operators exclusively specialised in transporting live animals (with a physical presence at airports),
  • Close cooperation with major airlines,
  • Training for handling operators at both the transit and destination airports,
  • Guidance and support for recipients of deliveries regarding import and customs procedures,
  • Certification as an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO),
  •  “Known Consignor“: European accreditation awarded by the European Aviation Safety Agency following inspection of air cargo by national authorities.
