HUBBARD PREMIUM
The BCC is a voluntary NGO driven industry collaborative concept that has existed since 2017.
This focusses on the production of chickens using:
• Approved slower growing breeds that have met welfare outcome criteria,
• Reduced stocking density,
• Standards for housing criteria including use of enrichments and windows,
• Meeting regulatory welfare and auditing targets and
• In some cases a focus on slaughter methods.

The BCC concept has been proposed for different regions including key markets for Europe, North America, Australia/New Zealand and Brazil. There are slight variations in the names used and definitions for BCC in each region.
In Europe, the name used locally for the BCC concept also varies with the names BCC, European Chicken Commitment (ECC) and European Broiler Chicken Initiative all used in practice depending on the country.
Specific adaptations have been proposed for religious slaughter such as Halal.
In North America, a related concept is the Better Chicken Project (BCP). This is a collaborative project with the Global Animal Partnership (GAP).
Many other slower growing concepts may meet the minimum requirements for the BCC, but these concepts may have other criteria producers need to meet that give them their unique selling points.
